Patricia Murphy is an award winning visual artist whose technique lends vulnerable, intimate yet powerfully intense energy that catalyzes the unmasking of the interior energies of life.  In 1976, her career began with a first place award given by the Citzen's Committee on Outdoor Scuplture in DeKalb, Illinois.  In 1984 Murphy won an award for her outdoor sculpture in New York City.  In March of 1990, her painting and drawing exhibition at Chicago's Artemisia Gallery received rave reviews.  She has exhibited her work in numerous other shows, such as Mile 3 Sculpture in Chicago's Art Expo where she was represented by Klein Gallery.  She has showcased her one-person painting show at the World Tattoo Gallery in Chicago. Her exhibition entitled Paradise Found 13 (egg tempera and gold leaf) had a premiere showing in Rome, Italy. These paintings were also shown in Wellington, New Zealand.

Raised in West Chicago, Pat owned and operated a day care center in Naples, Florida from 1969 to 1973. She taught art at Schaumburg High School, Elmhurst College, and School of the Art Institute. Ms. Murphy recieved a B.A. in Art Education from Northern Illinois University and pursued graduate studies at the School of the Art Institute. She recieved an M.A. in Inter-Disciplinary Arts Education from Columbia College in Chicago.  She has two grown children. Of Murphy's oil painting at Chicago's Artemisia Gallery, art critic Lynda Banckert (Chicago Reader) writes:

"The bold brush strokes and bright colors of these oils on stretched linen and watercolors on paper are only a prelude, however. For it is the monolithic expression created by a successful blending of personal, political, and art historical themes that gives this show its true power...

...Murphy's work is not only visually stimulating, but sincere and unfettered.  The themes, however varied, converge and blend because they have been deeply considered and felt.  It may be that cool, slick, theoretical work has held the spotlight for some time now, but Murphy makes no apologies for hot, brash, confrontational style."

She recently completed an outdoor 118-foot Venetian glass mosaic- "Lily, Birth-Rebirth" - is located at the Claredon Park Community Center in Chicago.  She is Founder/Director of the 18 year old Beacon Street Gallery and Theatre in Chicago.
